Thrifty finds....

I broke my own rule. Don't you hate it when you do that!? It's my rule. I should follow it. What is my rule you ask??? NEVER bring my kids (or any kids for that matter) to a flea market!! Unfortunately this past weekend my husband was working, all of my go-to babysitters were busy, and my urge to go to the flea market was MUCH stronger than my urge to follow my own rule. Luckily my sister came with me and we were up for the challenge. It was a HOT day (like upper 70's) and the kids were pretty peaceful up until about the last 3 rows. We pushed through and finished up the day strong with some AWESOME thrifty finds (and I changed them in to short sleeves once we got walking. It wasn't as hot when we were at home getting ready).
My first and favorite purchase of the day was a BIG turquoise Ball mason jar. It is like Heaven! SO perfect, I can't even tell you. I have always wanted one of these bad boys and I thought it was definitely worth the $10 splurge. You and I both know that I can't possibly keep a jar full of water on the coffee table with my rug rats running around.
So, this pretty has found it's new home on my dining table (with a gorgeous $3.99 bouquet that I got today at Trader Joe's). I called my husband at the fire station to tell him "thanks for buying me flowers today, you're super sweet." He replied, "No problem babe, I love you. Oh yeah, happy Valentine's day too." Ha ha, UGH! I so badly want to be a fresh-flowers-all-the-time kind of gal. Maybe once or twice a month, at $3.99 a bunch, I can try :)

LOVE this Eagle by the way. I have a few other pieces in my collection with this motif.
Ok. People. Am I nuts? I have recently began to like swans. Yes, swans. I know. I know. But they're just so pretty! I love how elegant they are. Well, as it turns out, swans are a plenty when thrifting. I had to turn down several at the flea market, but this blue one for $2 had to come home with me. Not my favorite color really, but she could get some sort of spruce up down the line. I just love her. And see that artichokey thing behind it. I scored that too. It's actually a vase. $2.50. Yep! Awesomeness. Oh yeah, and if you look at that apothecary jar to the left where I store my glue sticks, you can kind of see that it has that awesome eagle on it. This isn't a new find, just wanted to point it out.
...AND here is swan #2. This one is for baby girl's room and I think she is A-dorable! I already had that pink peony and look how perfect it looks in there! SO sweet. Seriously, am I nuts!?
a close-up for your viewing pleasure. This thing is adorable! $3. I'll take it!
I have always been a sucker for carnival glass. I'm picky about the color and shape, but it's usually cheap and easy to find so I can be choosy. This little guy was $2 and will be perfect on my desk for my paint brushes.
Last but not least, this sweet little piggy. It's a replica of the really old glass piggy banks (made originally by anchor hocking I think). There isn't any way to get the money out once you put it in, so I thought this would be a cute place to store all of my lucky coins that I find. I always stop to pick up coins on the ground (only the ones that are heads-up of course), so this way I can keep all the luck bottled up in this sweet little piggy.
All in all it was a GREAT day of thrifting and I am thrilled with my purchases. Ball jar, swans, artichoke, urn, & a piggy. {SWOON}.

  3. Wow! You had an awesome day! And all that with kids in tow. I'm impressed! I love the Mason jar and I really love your idea of keeping fresh flowers. For $4 they just make you feel good. I think it's totally worth the splurge! And as for the swans, I agree with Cassie...they might be the new "owl"!

  5. How fun!! I love good finds for cheap! Good for you to take your kidlets along for the ride. Maybe they'll find the joy you do in bargain shopping. Can't teach them to young, right?
