New bedding??? NEW BEDDING!!!! YAY!!!! (thanks hubby - I love you).
I finally got new bedding! I have been using the same old duvet and cover f-o-r-e-v-e-r! My hubby and I both decided that we are not a fan of the duvet/duvet cover system. Ours always bunches up and slides down and we are constantly adjusting and tugging etc. So, my mission was to find a comforter set that I loved (because I was NEVER going to be able to get another one, ha ha).
I fell in LOVE!!!!! See.....
If you're wondering, it's the Kate Spade Fairmont stripe Comforter from Bed Bath and Beyond! I have been crushing on black and white horizontal stripes for a while now and I knew this is the way I wanted to go!!! I love all of the pillows and shams in the set too, but they were WAY out of my budget. I ordered the comforter on-line and used a 20% off coupon, but it was going to take some effort on my part to diy the rest. This is where the DIY shams come in to play. The ones in the above picture are $50 per sham (yes, you read that right). NOPE. Not happening!!!
So, I was able to find solid black king sized shams on overstock.com for $25 for the pair. Much better!
BUT - basic black was just not going to cut it. Nope. Not fancy shmancy enough for me. So, here goes.... wide white grosgrain ribbon and heat and bond. My 2 new best friends :)
I followed the instructions on the package and everything worked great!
first, cut ribbon and heat and bond to size.
Next, iron the heat and bond strip to the ribbon and peel off the paper backing..
Then just place it where you want it on the fabric and iron over the top.
I wanted to frame the sham with the ribbon so I used the existing stitch as my guide (I overlapped the ribbon in each corner and it worked great)
Next step....make the bed (not a fan of this, but from time to time I do it, ha ha!)
READY!!!???? Taadaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
I got the fun toss pillows at Home Goods :)
I love the way it looks and I think the diy shams definitely finished off the look. You like????
I like :)
(oh and please disregard my shadeless gold lamps. I attempted to spray paint my frumpy college apartment lamps gold, but finding the right size shades is proving impossible. I'm on the hunt for new lamps and shades all together because these are just NOT working).
Happy almost Friday!!!
