Taper candles = SCARY.

I am NOT a fan of taper candles. They just seem precarious to me. Dangerous even. I love the look of an elegant candelabra, but those wiggly, drippy, "gonna set your sweater on fire if you reach for the rolls" taper candles have no place in my world. Ok, sounds a bit extreme, but you get the point. I got this pretty candelabra at a flea market a while back for $5. Score. But, because of my taper-phobia, it has been unused and basically a dust-collector up until now.
I decided to turn my frown upside-down and make it work. I got some glass votive candle holders from WalMart ($.99 ea), busted out my industrial strength E6000 (stinky stuff, but works like magic), and went to work.
I used some rubber bands to hold them in place while the glue dried. After a little while, I removed them, added some candles, and poof! Magic!
There you have it! A safe, pretty, useful candle holder that will no longer sit and collect dust. I love how it turned out and it was so so simple to do. I can't believe I waited so long.I also think it would look adorable with fresh cut flowers from the garden in the glass cups instead of candles. Or even at a coffee station filled with sugar packets, stirrers, sugar cubes, etc. The possibilities are endless :)
Happy crafting people!

  2. What a great idea! I HATE taper candles, but have so many candlesticks that use them. Grandmother's all seem to think I need their handmedowns so most of them were free.
I can't wait to try this & see if it works.

  5. Great idea! Love the use of the rubber bands to hold the glass in place...don't think I would have thought of that. Going to put that idea in my tool box (brain)!

  6. Really pretty, Ali! I really did catch a sweater on fire once reaching across the table over a candle. I ran outside with my dad yelling, "Roll! Roll!" behind me. Too bad... it was my sister's sweater!
